Vision

To continue to work in alignment with the community to establish and promote Simcoe Muskoka as the community of choice for culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people by eliminating systemic barriers, affording accessible communication and providing state of the art technology to ensure an equitable lifestyl

By 2013, Deaf Access Simcoe Muskoka will be recognized by at least 50% of the general population. Increasingly, Deaf Access will become the lead resource agency for Deaf, deafened and hard-of-hearing people in Simcoe and Muskoka.

As a result of Deaf Access’ leadership and focused collaborative efforts, the Simcoe Muskoka areas will be established as the community of choice for an increasing number of Deaf, deafened and hard-of-hearing people who re-locate here to benefit from enhanced and accessible local services.

With our focus on eliminating communication and cultural barriers between Deaf people and their hearing neighbours, our community has greater access to essential, social and recreational services that improves the quality of life for everyone.

For example, this expanding population will enjoy heightened work opportunities due in large part to the advocacy and partnerships forged by Deaf Access. Area employers are becoming ever-more aware of the diverse abilities of Deaf, deafened, and will increasingly take advantage of this hidden workforce – using the resources of Deaf Access and its partners to facilitate employment where required.

As these successes build on each other over the years, Deaf Access Simcoe Muskoka will broadcast each barrier breakthrough so all members of our community will know exactly what resources are available to them.

To reach our vision during the next four years Deaf Access Simcoe Muskoka will:

  • Partner and Expand Services
  • Improve communication accessibility
  • And engage in and initiate integration and alignment of services
