For approximately six months, beginning in October of 2008, Deaf Access Simcoe Muskoka (Deaf Access) was involved in a strategic planning process to help the organization identify the ideal future and the best ways to get there.

The process for developing the strategic plan followed a basic and proven method, beginning with painting the picture of the ideal future (the vision) and concluding with very specific operational planning around the priority areas that the organization needs to address if it is to reach that vision.

With the help of a consulting firm, Deaf Access conducted research into local and provincial social, economic and political factors that could affect the organization. We also spoke with many people throughout Simcoe County who have an interest in the deaf, deafened and hard of hearing communities.
Additionally, two facilitated sessions were held – one in October and one in February – with staff and board members, with the aid of interpreters, interveners and note takers.

The results from the research and planning sessions have been the development of the following values, vision, mission and strategic priorities:
